Escritoire\Writing\Claim\Scope
The scope of a claim is the context within which its propositions can be meaningfully interpreted. There are four categories of scope in Pacisco, listed in order of increasing generality;
- Case
- Argument
- Discussion
- Global
Case scope signals that the proposition makes reference to artefacts that are only meaningful in the context of the case in which it occurs. E.g. where a claim references a publication and this proposition addresses a particular detail of it.
Argument scope signals that the proposition is meaningful throughout the argument, i.e. it may appear in more than one case.
Discussion scope signals that the proposition is meaningful in any argument in this particular discussion.
Global scope signals that the proposition will be understood across all discussions.
Warrant-propositions are more likely to have argument or global scope.
The effect of setting the scope of a claim is to restrict the presentation of existing propositions when entering a case; claims with global scope will always be presented, claims with discussion scope will only be presented if the case is part of the same discussion.

Clicking on the scope selection control causes the full list of options to be revealed. Click on the relevant option to indicate the scope of the associated proposition. Once the argument is published, this can not be changed.
